While Internet Explorer was first introduced as a browser, according to Microsoft, it is now considered a “Compatibility Solution” for legacy sites that should be updated for modern browsers and is no longer considered or should be used as a browser itself.
Although it may seem easier for companies to use Internet Explorer, most software and website developers are going to modern browsers like Chrome and Firefox to test updates. This means that as new and improved updates and applications are introduced, they are not compatible with Internet Explorer, preventing users from accessing a large portion of the web. Additionally, Microsoft is no longer creating new web standards for Internet Explorer which is a huge security concern as their protocols are not up to date. Businesses should only use Internet Explorer on rare occasions when they require access to very old websites that are no longer updated.
If your business is currently using Internet Explorer as your main browser, you should speak with your IT team to advise you on a new browser to start utilizing company wide.
