Cisco announced that a clock signal component issue could cause a failure in the following models of Adaptive Security Appliances (ASA):
Because of this failure, affected ASAs can:
- Stop functioning
- Not reboot
- Not be recoverable
As a result of this issue, If your ASA fails, your business will lose internet connection. Additionally, depending on the configuration of your network, you could also lose access to company resources.
If you would like to see if your device is affected, Cisco has provided a validation site to check the serial numbers. Simply input the serial number(s) of your ASA to see if your device is part of the affected models. Should it be affected, Cisco will provide a replacement provided that it is under warranty or covered by any valid hardware services contract dated as of November 16, 2016.
Any warranty that was attached to your ASA will migrate automatically to the new ASA once Cisco receives your old affected device.
